Recess will be held in the evening (EST) on the last Saturday of every month, with a few exceptions. Check out the full schedule below to see what special events are planned for each month.
First Gathering!
A Joyful Welcome
Our first gathering will include a themed show-and-tell which attendees are invited (not expected) to participate in. Our theme this month is joy, so we'll be sharing small objects which make us disproportionately happy.
Calling on Spring
This gathering will focus on warmth - both celebrating the warmth of community and summoning warmer weather for those of us living up north. To this end, everyone is invited (not obligated) to dress in their most luscious spring-themed attire (however you choose to interpret that, you're correct).
Letters of Love
Little Guy and the Carrot of Care will be hosting "Mail Time" (yes, like from Blue's Clues) this month. Letters, stories, jokes, and who knows what else will be collected throughout March and April - and then we'll get to open everything together live at Recess! Can't wait to see what goodies will be sent our way!
Happy Little Mistakes
We're going to lean into our creative side with a comedic doodling game this month! As we reflect on loving ourselves through our mistakes. The best part of this game is that the whole point is to draw badly - so put your performance anxiety aside (should you choose to play - enjoying watching others is always allowed) and contribute to our Oops Gallery!
Being Our "Best"
What does "our best" even mean and how do we achieve being it? Well, we're going to take a somewhat radical approach to this and reflect on how loving ourselves in all our stressed-out, messy, imperfect glory is the answer. As a part of this gathering, we'll be hosting a comedically low-stakes competition where we can playfully practice this philosophy. (Participation optional, as always.)
Summer Selfie
Our gathering this month centers on celebrating the care we bring to our work. We'll have another themed show-and-tell, inviting folks to share an artifact which helps them give or receive care - and there's no right or wrong way to interpret that. You'll find more information after registering for this Recess and remember, bringing and item for show-and-tell is optional!
Notes of Hope
Little Guy and the Carrot of Care will host another mail time at this gathering. They'll be sharing messages of hope and hilarity which they'll collect over the summer. Join us to listen to and laugh at all the good news and goodness knows what else is delivered!
On Seeking
This gathering is going to be particularly exciting as we work collaboratively to solve a mystery... and reflect on the ways humans seek connection and understanding amidst chaos.
Choose "Weird"
Look, we love Halloween, so it seems fitting that for our October gathering, we should invite everyone to dress up and consider the benefits of choosing to be "weird." So don your weirdest attire (however you'd like to interpret that), should you choose, and join us for hilarity and reflection.
Blessed Imperfection
This month, we're going to skip over the predictability of "gratitude" as a theme and focus instead on the sacred nature of imperfection. Our comedic dooling game will be back (remember, the point is to draw badly) and you'll have the opportunity to add a few more masterpieces of silliness to the Oops Gallery.
When We Float
Depending on you family and community traditions, December can be the most hectic and stressful month of all - even when things aren't on fire. Join us for a gathering in which some low-stakes competition allows us to stretch our "floating" muscles (participation optional).
